Food Trucks Rule New York City
A very interesting video on YouTube on the gourmet food truck craze that has hit the curbsides of New York. Unfortunately I can’t embed it for you to watch here, but it’s worth clicking over to view. Over the past year, mobile foot outlets like the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, Street Sweets and Schnitzel and Things have pushed street cuisine to new heights–with wasabi-dipped ice cream, orange brioche, and chicken schnitzel. Loyal fans track down their favorite vendors with social media tools like Twitter.
Most interesting from the business aspect is how the newcomers effect established vendors like hot-dog cart businesses. And the question of how restaurants can compete on price when they have higher costs. Of course, high taxes can’t be blamed on food trucks.
